SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - A small dog caused big delays for rush hour commuters after it ran onto a Utah highway Monday.

Authorities say traffic was stopped in both directions on Legacy Parkway near West Bountiful about 5:30 p.m. after the dog ran onto the road.

The Utah Highway Patrol says animal control officers tried to catch the dog, but it ran away.

Trooper Doug Moss says it was caught after the owner showed up and called it.

The Deseret News reports the pet ran away after the owner let it off the leash while walking on a nearby trail.

Animal control officials say the owner was fined $110 for leash and animal-at-large violations.
