MIAMI (AP) - Police say a South Florida man beat his 50-year-old uncle to death, wrapped his body in a rug and left his body in a field several blocks away.

Miami-Dade police investigators found Carlos Nino’s body on Monday and later arrested 30-year-old Carlos Zuluaga.

The Miami Herald (https://hrld.us/1DAg6T2 ) reports Zuluaga’s mother became concerns about her missing brother and pets when she returned home Sunday from a short vacation. They found a dead cat in a crate and three dogs buried out back. Over the weekend Nino told his sister that Zuluaga was smoking cigarettes and playing loud music.

Police say Zuluaga confessed and has been charged with second-degree murder with a deadly weapon and animal cruelty. He remained in jail Tuesday morning. Jail records don’t indicate whether he’s hired an attorney.
