LOS ANGELES (AP) - A lawsuit filed by the family of an apparently suicidal college student shot and killed by Los Angeles police claims he obeyed all orders given by the officers and they still opened fire.

The Daily News reported Monday (https://bit.ly/18Kc1SO ) that the suit says Josue Fuentes was unarmed and had his hands in the air when he was shot Nov. 9 near Pierce College. Police say they recovered a bloody knife from the scene.

The $15 million wrongful-death lawsuit was filed on behalf of the family against the city, the Police Department and two officers.

A city spokesman said he could not comment on pending litigation.

The 22-year-old’s death was ruled a homicide. A coroner’s report says Fuentes was shot five times and also had self-inflicted sharp force injuries.
