WASHINGTON, Pa. (AP) - A southwestern Pennsylvania school board has fired a 45-year-old teacher’s aide who was charged with having sex with an 18-year-old student in December.

The (Washington) Observer-Reporter (https://bit.ly/1CWcnB2 ) says the Washington School Board voted Monday to fire 45-year-old Tracy Ardeno.

The Washington, Pennsylvania woman was charged Jan. 9 after police say she picked up a student in her vehicle and drove him to a cemetery where they had sex in early December.

She’s charged with institutional sexual assault. Under Pennsylvania law, even consensual sex is illegal if it occurs in the context of a student-teacher relationship.

Another teacher alerted district officials after she saw Ardeno pick up the student in her vehicle at a fast-food restaurant across the street from the school.

Ardeno faces a preliminary hearing Feb. 25. Her attorney didn’t immediately return a call for comment.
