TUCSON, Ariz. (AP) - The Tucson Fire Department had to send multiple trucks to respond to a fire involving a big rig’s trailer on Interstate 10 because there are no hydrants on the freeway.

The truck driver was already separating the rig’s tractor from the burning trailer when firefighters arrived shortly after 4 a.m. Tuesday.

Fire Capt. Barrett Baker says the captain of the initially responding unit immediately asked for additional units to provide additional water. Three additional engines and a 2,500-gallon water tender responded.

Baker says crews spent about two hours removing material from the trailer to extinguish hot spots.

No injuries were reported.
