EVERETT, Wash. (AP) - Construction is scheduled to start in July on a $71 million Washington State University building in Everett.

The board of regents approved designs last week for the University Center of North Puget Sound, located near Everett Community College. The design is intended to provide a sense of identity for WSU in Everett, the Seattle Daily Journal of Commerce reported Tuesday (https://bit.ly/16gjUOl ).

Washington State University took over management last year of the expanding center, which is a consortium of colleges, including WSU.

The 95,000-square-foot building will house classrooms, faculty offices and services for students working toward four-year degrees in science, technology, engineering and math. Construction is expected to be finished in July 2017.

Washington State University also increased its presence in western Washington last May with the opening of a WSU Connections store in Everett. It sells Cougar apparel and tickets, and provides services for donors and alumni.
