ROME (AP) - Italy coach Antonio Conte has canceled a training camp next week after clubs were reluctant to release players.

The three-day training camp was scheduled to start on Monday.

Since it was not in a FIFA-recognized national team break, several Italian clubs didn’t want to risk players becoming fatigued and/or injured.

Conte says, “I hope that from here on we can all find solutions to make the national team a reference point for everyone.”

Italian Football Federation president Carlo Tavecchio adds the choice was made to “respect everyone’s interests.”

Italy, which was eliminated after the first round of the last two World Cups, next visits Bulgaria on March 28 in European Championship qualifying, then hosts England three days later in a friendly.
