ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. (AP) - Albuquerque police have made an arrest in a hit-and-run accident in which an off-duty police officer was seriously injured while riding his personal motorcycle.

The Police Department identified the injured officer as Raymond Loomis and said he is assigned to duty at the Metropolitan Courthouse. His condition has been upgraded to stable from critical as of Wednesday.

According to police, the accident occurred late Tuesday afternoon on Interstate 40 near Rio Grande.

Police said a car left the area after striking the motorcycle and that officers later arrested 21-year-old Thomas Stavros on suspicion of leaving the scene of an accident involving death or great bodily harm.

According to police, there’s no indication that Loomis was targeted because he’s a police officer.
