NEW YORK (AP) - Police say a 36-year-old California man has been fatally struck by two cars in New York City.

The accident happened just before 8 p.m. Tuesday in the Ridgewood section of Queens.

Police say Kamil Gorski, of San Marcos, California, was crossing a street when he was hit by a white van that fled the scene.

The victim was hit by a second car while he was lying on the roadway. The driver of the second car remained at the scene.

Gorski suffered severe head trauma. He was pronounced dead at a hospital.

Police say the driver of the first car, 53-year-old Raul Reyes of Brooklyn, was arrested on a charge of leaving the scene of an accident resulting in death.

No information on an attorney for Reyes was available.
