PORTALES, N.M. (AP) - Eastern New Mexico University students are facing a tuition increase this fall.

The Portales News-Tribune reports (https://goo.gl/a0n5Ty) that the ENMU’s board of regents approved a 6.5 percent increase in tuition and fees during a Jan. 23 meeting in Santa Fe.

Scott Smart, ENMU’s vice president of business affairs, says the tuition and fees increase translates to a $155 per semester increase for undergraduates and a $170 increase for graduate students.

In-state full-time students currently pay $2,550 per semester while out-of-state students pay $5,437 per semester.

Smart says the increase in tuition and fees is needed to compensate for a lack of state appropriated funds.
