COLLINS, Miss. (AP) - The former chief of the Southwest Covington County Volunteer Fire Department has pleaded guilty to one count of grand larceny.

State Auditor Stacey Pickering says in a news release that Jerry Warren was sentenced this week to five years non-adjudicated probation.

The 41-year-old Warren was accused last July of embezzling from the volunteer fire department dating back to 2009 by making cash withdrawals totaling $9,450 from two separate bank accounts, while also making unauthorized personal purchases totaling $356.

Pickering says Warren was also ordered to pay restitution in the amount of $9,807. Pickering says the money will be returned to the volunteer fire department.
