PITTSBURGH (AP) - Authorities in western Pennsylvania say an elderly man and woman found dead in their Pittsburgh-area apartment both killed themselves.

Police in Ross Township said the bodies of 86-year-old Margaret Nalley and 85-year-old Alfred Nalley were found shortly before 5:30 p.m. Tuesday.

The Allegheny County medical examiner’s office said earlier that it appeared that one of the two had committed suicide.

The medical examiner’s office said Wednesday following autopsies that both died of asphyxiation and ruled both deaths suicides.

Police said both were in declining health. Their bodies were found after their adult son asked a neighbor to check on their well-being.
