UPPER DARBY, Pa. (AP) - Police say a man allegedly targeted for robbery while walking in a Philadelphia-area park shot and killed the masked man who accosted him.

Upper Darby Superintendent Michael Chitwood said the 67-year-old man was walking in Upper Darby’s Cobbs Creek Park at about 2:30 p.m. Wednesday when a masked man ran up behind him with a gun and demanded money.

He told police that the two struggled over the suspect’s gun before he pulled his own .38 caliber weapon and fired. The masked man was pronounced dead at the scene. Chitwood said the suspect’s weapon appeared to be a pellet or air gun.

Chitwood said the man, who was taken to the hospital for treatment of chest pains, was licensed to carry a gun, and no charges are expected.
