NORFOLK, Va. (AP) - A 21-year-old Virginia Beach man has been sentenced to nearly 21 years in prison for distributing heroin that led to an overdose death.

At his sentencing Wednesday in Norfolk, Stephen Ron Martin II was also ordered to serve three years of supervised release following his prison term.

The U.S. attorney’s office says Martin pleaded guilty in October 2014.

According to court documents, Martin distributed heroin to Steven Bradley Nichols in October 2013. An autopsy confirmed that Nichols died as a result of acute heroin intoxication.

Martin was sentenced in U.S. District Court.
