DENVER (AP) - Transportation officials say 234 people were arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence over Super Bowl weekend.

The Colorado Department of Transportation says the arrests were made between 6 p.m. on Jan. 30 and 3 a.m. the following Monday, which is the official Super Bowl enforcement period. The Denver Post reports (https://dpo.st/1zgABzU ) it is one of 12 periods each year during which Colorado law enforcement agencies crack down on DUIs with increased patrols and additional checkpoints.

Of the 234 arrests, 65 were on Super Bowl Sunday. Over the weekend as a whole, Denver police recorded the most arrests with 36. Aurora and Colorado Springs police each reported 24.

This year’s Super Bowl weekend arrests were down compared to last year, when 327 arrests were made during the enforcement period.
