LEXINGTON, N.C. (AP) - By now, the Alkadir family knows how to spell the word “dynasty.”

The Dispatch of Lexington reports (https://bit.ly/1CC7AWI) another family member has captured the Davidson County Schools’ annual spelling bee for the fifth straight year.

Hamza Alkadir, a fifth-grader at Friendship Elementary School, captured the 2015 title after seven rounds with the winning word “nirvana.”

Last year, Hayat Alkadir, who is now a ninth-grader at Ledford High School, beat Hamza, who was runner-up to his older sister.

In the three years before that, oldest sister Nejat Alkadir, now a sophomore at Ledford High School, won the district championship and 2012 regional competition to advance to the Scripps National Spelling Bee in Washington.

An official in the Davidson County Schools says Hamza’s win demonstrates his parents’ dedication to stressing education.
