LARAMIE, Wyo. (AP) - A Laramie man accused of attacking a 20-year-old woman nearly 43 years ago has been acquitted of first-degree murder but convicted of attempted rape.

The Laramie Boomerang reports (https://bit.ly/1DKOXwH ) a jury handed down its verdict against Lance David Bean on Friday. He was arrested in August after police said new DNA evidence implicated him in the attack on Sharon Reher in 1972.

According to court documents, Bean was a guest at a party hosted by Reher the night before the killing. His attorney said guests at the party were playing a game in which they put blankets over peoples’ heads and removed an article of clothing. He suggested the DNA submitted as evidence could have sloughed off from the blankets.
