SANTA ANA, Calif. (AP) - A man who raped and killed an Orange County woman more than three decades ago has been sentenced to death for the second time.

City News Service says Richard Raymond Ramirez was sentenced Friday for the 1983 killing of Kim Gonzalez in Garden Grove.

Prosecutors say the two met in a local bar. Her body was found the next morning on a walkway.

Ramirez was sentenced to death in 1985 but the conviction was overturned because the jury foreman didn’t tell the court he’d applied for a job with the FBI.

DNA evidence helped convict Ramirez in his second trial. The jury deadlocked over punishment but a second panel recommended death.

Ramirez, who’s 55, had a previous conviction for raping a woman in Merced when he was 18.
