INDIANAPOLIS (AP) - President Barack Obama says America is poised for another good year as long as Washington bridges partisan divides and works together to build an economy “that’s picking up steam.”

Obama says the Republican state of Indiana has been able to get some things done by focusing on problems and not being so worried about the separate interests of Democrats and Republicans.

He says that’s the type of attitude he’s hoping to “infect” Washington with. Obama has to negotiate with a Republican-controlled House and Senate during his final two years in office.

Obama appeared in Indianapolis to tout proposals from his State of the Union address, notably a $60 billion plan for free community college for “responsible” students.

Some lawmakers in Congress have criticized the community college idea.
