CHELSEA, Okla. (AP) - Authorities are seeking information after a Rogers County rancher discovered a 12-year-old cow that had been partially butchered and left near a rural intersection.

The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association says the animal was found Thursday about 30 yards from the road in Chelsea.

John Cummings, a special ranger with the group, says the cow was shot in the head with a small caliber weapon and that the suspect removed the right hindquarters and some of the back strap from the animal. The rest of the cow was left untouched.

Cummings says it’s the third cow or calf that has been killed and butchered in the area since 2010.
