MACON, Ga. (AP) - A woman accused of abandoning her 2-year-old son outside a restaurant has been charged with cruelty to children.

Bibb County sheriff’s officials say a restaurant employee saw a woman exit her car, open the rear passenger door to take something out and drive away Sunday night. Sheriff’s officials say the restaurant manager and an employee then heard crying coming from the bushes and the boy came walking toward them.

Sheriff’s officials say 23-year-old Kalandra Hightower and another woman drove back to the restaurant about an hour after deputies and social workers arrived on the scene. Sheriff’s officials say Hightower was arrested and jail records show she’s being held on $8,450 bond. Sheriff’s officials say the boy is in his grandmother’s custody.

It’s unclear if Hightower has an attorney.
