LOVINGTON, N.M. (AP) - Authorities say a Lovington man is in custody for allegedly assaulting a police officer and a weapons violation last month.

Hobbs police say they received a “fight in progress” and “shots fired” call at Diamond Lil’s Bar about 1:45 a.m. on Jan. 17.

A police officer responded to the scene and shots were fired.

Agents from the New Mexico State Police Investigations Bureau say they now have arrested 21-year-old Kyle Laghrin in connection with the case.

They say Laghrin is being held at the Lea County Detention Center in Lovington on suspicion of aggravated assault upon a peace officer and negligent use of a deadly weapon.

It was unclear Monday if Laghrin has a lawyer yet.
