SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - The Utah House has unanimously approved a bill that exempts breastfeeding mothers from jury duty.

House representatives voted 74-0 Monday morning to pass the measure, which now advances to the Senate.

Spanish Fork Republican Rep. Mike McKell is sponsoring the bill.

He says a mother who lives in his legislative district reached out to him after she was required to serve on a jury while nursing.

The National Conference of State Legislatures reports 16 states and Puerto Rico offer a similar exemption to breastfeeding mothers.
