NEWARK, N.J. (AP) - State authorities say a Newark woman has admitted that she falsely reported her car had been stolen so she could get an insurance settlement.

Janette Bautista pleaded guilty Monday to insurance fraud. In return, prosecutors will recommend that she receive a three-year prison sentence.

Authorities say the 57-year-old Bautista received a $6,686.50 insurance settlement after claiming in November 2011 that her car had been stolen. But an investigation by the state’s Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor determined that she had abandoned the vehicle.
