HASTINGS, N.Y. (AP) - State police say a 4-year-old boy has died in a house fire in a central New York home.

Troopers say Randy Halsdorf was trapped inside an Oswego County home on Sunday night and firefighters were unable to reach him in time.

The fire, which was reported around 11 p.m. in the town of Hastings, also sent four or five people to a Syracuse hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation. Trooper Jack Keller says they have since been released.

Firefighters from several departments responded and the home has been deemed a total loss.

State police are investigating the cause of the blaze.

Hastings is about 23 miles north of Syracuse.
