LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - The new speaker of the Arkansas House says he and his colleagues have an opportunity to provide “stability and strength” for the state.

Rep. Jeremy Gillam of Judsonia addressed House members following his election as House Speaker on Monday. He said the chamber will face challenges this session but that he is confident it will meet whatever comes up.

Legislators will address extending Arkansas’ compromise Medicaid expansion and also consider a major tax-cut plan being put forth by incoming governor Asa Hutchinson.

Gillam says it is time for all 100 members of the House to work in a manner to bring honor to God and to all who have served in the House before them.
