COLUMBIA, S.C. (AP) - Gov. Nikki Haley raised more money toward her second victory over Democratic Sen. Vincent Sheheen than the two spent in their 2010 contest combined.

The State newspaper reports (https://bit.ly/14PFcBP ) that campaign finance reports filed over the weekend show Haley raised $8.4 million for her re-election bid. She and Sheheen together spent just over $8 million in the 2010 race.

Out-of-state donors accounted for 25 percent of Haley’s contributors for last November’s election but nearly 50 percent of her collections. Their $3.9 million was more than Sheheen’s total fundraising.

State Ethics Commission filings show Sheheen raised $3.7 million. Ninety percent of his money came from in-state donors. Petition candidate Tom Ervin self-financed $5.4 million. He spent $4.1 million of it before dropping out a week before Election Day and endorsing Sheheen.
