CLOVIS, N.M. (AP) - A longtime basketball coach in eastern New Mexico is dead after a traffic accident north of Clovis.

Curry County Sheriff’s officials say 52-year-old J.D. Isler died Sunday after his pickup truck collided with a semi-truck. He was declared dead at the scene.

Isler was in his first season at Elida High School, following a two-year absence from coaching.

The Grady resident previously coached 10 years at Clovis High and eight years in Grady High in addition to stops at New Mexico Junior College, Texas-Arlington and McMurry University.

Isler had a 209-70 record at Clovis, leading the school to five district titles and reaching the state tournament in each of his 10 years.

He was coaching the girls team at Elida this season.

Funeral arrangements are pending.
