SALT LAKE CITY (AP) - Authorities say a man shot by police in Syracuse last week has died.

Police said Monday that 49-year-old Thomas Hamby died over the weekend.

Syracuse police spokeswoman Erin Behm says Hamby was shot Thursday after he walked out of his home and fired a gun at police officers responding to a 911 call from his girlfriend. He was flown to a hospital.

Police say Hamby’s girlfriend told authorities he had been acting strangely, and called police after she got home and found him holding a gun.

Hamby’s shooting happened about three hours after a Salt Lake City officer shot and killed a man who hit him with a shovel in an unrelated incident.
