PIERRE, S.D. (AP) - Two South Dakota elderly men have been found safe after their all-terrain vehicle pierced the ice and partially fell into the Cheyenne River.

KCCR-AM reports that the men were coyote hunting when the vehicle hit soft ice. The men did not fell into the water.

Ron Bren with the Pierre Rescue Squad says one man set off on foot for a boat ramp about two miles away. The man then found a spot where he could use his cellphone to call for help.

Bren says the other man at first stayed near the ATV because of a problem with his feet, but eventually began walking.

Bren says emergency responders drove their own ATVs on the ice following the men’s tracks until both were located.
