MOSSVILLE, La. (AP) - Axiall Corp. has donated $75,000 donation to the Calcasieu Parish Police Jury to help offset water rate increases in Mossville.

The American Press reports (https://bit.ly/1yaYDkp ) the company paid the first of three annual installments of $25,000 earlier this month. Police jurors did not want to put the increased costs on local residents.

Axiall’s donation will buy down any excesses in Mossville water rates throughout this year, 2016 and 2017. Mossville residents have been getting water from Westlake since May when Axiall executives first asked the Police Jury about the community’s daily water use.

Axiall announced in July it was planning to expand its Westlake plant with a new ethane cracker and monoethylene glycol facility. The combined projects have an estimated price tag of $3 billion.
