GETTYSBURG, Pa. (AP) - A man has been sentenced to 3½ to 10 years in prison in a crash that killed a central Pennsylvania man who was on a riding lawn mower.

Forty-six-year-old Jonathan Giannotto of Abbottstown pleaded guilty in October in Adams County Court to homicide by vehicle while driving under the influence.

Authorities said his pickup truck crashed into the mower in August 2013 in Hamilton Township, killing 55-year-old Charles Ankney of New Oxford.

Giannotto apologized in court Monday, saying he understood the pain he had caused the victim’s relatives.

Defense attorney Frank Arcuri unsuccessfully sought to have his client serve part of his term on house arrest for medical reasons.
