WALL TOWNSHIP, N.J. (AP) - Authorities say a former NHL player who won a Stanley Cup with the New Jersey Devils and now coaches a high school team in the state has been accused of kicking a 16-year-old player in the back.

A complaint filed against Dowd in Wall Township court said that a parent filed the charge over an incident that allegedly occurred last Wednesday when the team played Red Bank Regional at the Jersey Shore Arena in Wall.

A hearing in Wall Township Municipal Court scheduled for Tuesday was postponed. A message left with Dowd’s attorney wasn’t immediately returned.

Manasquan School Superintendent Frank Kasyan (KAYS’-an) says it was best to relieve Dowd of his coaching duties of the Manasquan/Point Pleasant Beach varsity hockey team during the investigation.

Dowd played 17 seasons in the NHL.
