BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) - A former sheriff’s deputy who worked as a western New York jail guard is headed to prison for smuggling marijuana and a cellphone for inmates.

Erie County District Attorney Frank Sedita says Charles Hunt Jr., who’s already been fired, was sentenced Tuesday to 90 days in prison.

He pleaded guilty in September to smuggling the items into the Erie County Holding Center, where he was assigned, in return for $1,000.

After an inmate tip led to his arrest in August 2014, Hunt admitted he’d smuggled marijuana into the Buffalo jail twice before.
