FRUITA, Colo. (AP) - A woman killed in an apparent murder suicide attempt in Fruita has been identified as a 37-year-old mother of four and veterinary technician.

Police found Danya Spiess dead in a shooting in her home Sunday night. A man who was found wounded was taken to the hospital.

The Daily Sentinel (https://bit.ly/14QLthh ) reports that a woman had called police before the shooting to report that her husband had been drinking and was walking around the house with a shot gun. According to court documents, the dispatcher then heard a noise and a loud scream before the line went dead.

Speiss was the head technician at Tiara Rado Animal Hospital in Grand Junction. Veterinarian Frank Coons says she was an animal lover who had dogs, cats and horses.
