TATE, Ga. (AP) - Authorities in north Georgia say an employee at a marble fabrication plant died after being crushed by an estimated 7,000 pounds of the material.

Pickens County Sheriff’s Lt. Kris Stancil told the Atlanta Journal-Constitution the worker was killed Monday at Georgia Marble in Tate - about 53 miles north of downtown Atlanta.

Stancil says the worker was handling a machine when a slab of marble fell on top of him.

The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is investigating the cause of the accident.
