RICHMOND, Va. (AP) - Henrico Republican state Sen. Walter Stosch says he is retiring at the end of this term.

The longtime senator said Tuesday that he plans to spend more time with his family after serving 32 years in the General Assembly.

Stosch is one of a handful of GOP lawmakers who supports expanding publicly subsidized health insurance for the poor. Stosch joins another moderate GOP senator, John Watkins, in retirement. Watkins announced his decision to step down in November.

As chairman of the important Senate Finance Committee, Stosch has considerable power in the upper chamber.
