PITTSBURG, Calif. (AP) - Authorities say a Pittsburg police officer responding to a bank robbery was among five people injured when another driver slammed into his cruiser and triggered a multi-vehicle crash.

The Contra Costa Times reports (https://bit.ly/1xWT5tp ) the officer was responding with emergency lights and siren when his car was struck Monday.

Police Captain Ron Raman says the collision caused a chain reaction, which resulted in another vehicle and a motorcycle being hit.

Officials say a total of five people, including the officer, were transported to hospitals with injuries that were not life-threatening.

Raman says the officer was released from the hospital late Monday and is expected to fully recover.

California Highway Patrol is investigating the crash.
