DEVILS LAKE, N.D. (AP) - Significant cracks have been found on the currently frozen Devils Lake raising concerns among some winter enthusiasts.

Jeff Katzer a long-time fishing guide with Woodland Resort tells KFGO-AM (https://bit.ly/1AMWGKt ) that the cracks are a few feet long in some places where typically only small cracks would show up. There are about 24 inches of ice on the lake in most places.

Katzer says the resort has built ramps over the cracks in order to allow anglers and staff to move to and from ice houses safely. He says the problem is of such magnitude that the winter season’s “roads” on the lake have been temporarily shut down.

Katzer says the warmer temperatures in the forecast for later this week will only make matters worse.
