PHILIPPI, W.Va. (AP) - Alderson Broaddus University is adding a new major: legal studies.

The program will be launched next fall on the Philippi campus, with the recruitment of students beginning immediately.

The legal studies program will be multidisciplinary. The university says it will provide students with the professional skills and knowledge necessary for success in law school or in a variety of other legal careers.

The university cited Bureau of Labor statistics that show growth in fields such as arbitration and mediation and in careers as legal researchers or court clerks.

Alderson Broaddus President Richard Creehan says faculty has been working on academic programs to ensure they are innovative and market driven.

The new major was announced Monday.
