ATLANTA (AP) - State labor officials say they’re helping Atlanta’s public transit agency recruit 18 new police officers.

Georgia Department of Labor officials say they’re assisting with a recruitment fair Saturday at Metropolitan Atlanta Rapid Transit Authority headquarters from 9 a.m. to noon.

Officials say applicants must be 21 or older, have a valid driver’s license and pass physical and psychological exams - which include drug and alcohol screenings. GDOL officials say applicants must also pass a background check, credit check and a polygraph.

Officials say salaries begin at about $35,600 and bonuses are available for applicants who have Peace Officer Standards and Training certification. Officials say bonuses may also be available for other non-certified applicants who have other qualifications.
