LEWISTON, Maine (AP) - U.S. Attorney Thomas Delahanty II says 24 people are facing drug charges in a sweep in Lewiston-Auburn.

Delahanty joined more than a dozen law enforcement officials Tuesday to provide details of the operation that led to 14 people being charged in federal court and another 10 in state court.

The Sun Journal newspaper (https://bit.ly/1EmnWR2) reported one man was charged with maintaining a drug-involved premises. Delahanty said the public will see the charge used more frequently as law enforcement officials target people who provide a safe haven for drug dealers.

Delahanty said the sweep is the start of a concentrated effort targeting those involved in the illegal drug trade. He said Maine may be open for business but “not for drug dealers.”
