FAYETTEVILLE, Ark. (AP) - The biennial census of the homeless in Washington and Benton counties in northwestern Arkansas has been scheduled.

Researchers at the University of Arkansas’ Community and Family Institute and volunteers will conduct the census from 11 a.m. Jan. 29 through 11 a.m. Jan. 30.

The last census was in 2013 and found about 2,300 men, women and children were homeless in the two counties.

Community and Family Institute director Kevin Fitzpatrick says the survey gives service providers, government officials and local nonprofit groups the information needed to understand and work effectively with the homeless population.
