VAUGHN, Mont. (AP) - The driver of a pickup truck was killed when the pickup was struck by a train at a rural crossing northwest of Vaughn.

Montana Highway Patrol Trooper Daniel Arnold says the BNSF Railway freight train was hauling empty grain cars and traveling an estimated 48 mph when it struck the pickup at about 8:30 a.m. Tuesday.

The pickup was knocked away from the tracks and caught fire. The male driver died at the scene. The driver’s name, age and hometown were being withheld while family members were notified.

Arnold says the rural crossing was marked by crossbucks, but no lights or arms.

BNSF spokesman Matt Jones tells the Great Falls Tribune that no railway personnel were injured in the collision.
