ROCK SPRINGS, Wyo. (AP) - Authorities say a 61-year-old Green River man died after he fell through the ice on the Flaming Gorge Reservoir in southwestern Wyoming.

Sweetwater County Sheriff Mike Lowell says John M. Henderson’s body was recovered Tuesday morning in the Lost Dog area along the west bank of the reservoir, about 13 miles south of Green River.

Investigators say two men trying to retrieve a four-wheeler that had previously broken through the ice Monday heard Henderson, who had been ice fishing alone, calling for help. They tried to reach the man with a rope and a canoe, but he disappeared beneath the ice.

Henderson’s body was found about 100 yards from the west bank in about 40 feet of water.

Unseasonably warm temperatures contributed to unsafe ice conditions on the lake.
