PROVIDENCE, R.I. (AP) - A 21-year-old man who police say drove three teenage girls from Massachusetts to Rhode Island with plans to prostitute them has been ordered held without bail.

Derek Miranda of Boston’s Dorchester section faces kidnapping and sex trafficking charges.

The Providence Journal (https://bit.ly/1Cx4wrc ) reports that Miranda was arraigned in District Court on Tuesday.

Police said the girls were found Thursday night after a 14-year-old girl escaped from an apartment in Providence and called for help. Officers say the two other girls were 14 and 15 years old.

Police say Miranda drove the girls against their will from Randolph, Massachusetts, to Providence. Police say the girls were not prostituted.

Miranda didn’t enter a plea. The judge ordered him not to contact the girls.

A bail hearing was set for Feb. 3.
