PASS CHRISTIAN, Miss. (AP) - Pass Christian is a few weeks away from completing an $800,000 sports complex.

It includes a baseball field, new tennis courts and a football field that will give kids in Pass Christian a chance to play youth sports at a first class facility, said Mayor Chipper McDermott.

“It’ll have just about every sport. Tennis, baseball, and football. It’s downtown, centralized where the people are,” McDermott told WLOX-TV in Biloxi (https://bit.ly/15r5BXo ).

The sod is expected to be put down on the football field this week. Bleachers, concession stands and other facilities will make this a full service sports complex.

“We’re laying out the football field so we can get the goal posts in and the soccer goals installed,” said contractor Jeff Dixon. “I think this will be the diamond of the city. The kids will have something to enjoy for the next 20 or 30 years.”

McDermott said the sports complex will grow even more and offer even more opportunities for residents.

“We’re a little late in doing this, but it’s here. We will eventually build an outdoor basketball court. We’ll have every sport right here and that’s good,” said Mayor McDermott.

Harrison County will help with the costs by building the parking lot at the sports complex. It should all be complete by the end of February.
