COLUMBUS, Ohio (AP) - The president of Ohio State University is attending the State of the Union address as a guest of Sen. Rob Portman.

In a statement Tuesday, Portman’s office says he’s enjoyed working with Michael Drake on state and education issues, and called the OSU president a terrific ambassador for Ohio.

Portman also added that it seemed appropriate to have a Buckeye represented following Ohio State’s national championship football victory last week.

Drake says he’s looking forward to attending the event in Washington and hearing about policy proposals.

President Barack Obama is expected to highlight income inequality and middle-class economic issues during the address Tuesday evening.
