LITTLE ROCK, Ark. (AP) - U.S. Sen. John Boozman has been named chairman of a subcommittee of the U.S. Senate’s Appropriations Committee.

Appropriations Committee Chairman Thad Cochran announced Tuesday that Boozman, a Republican, will chair the Senate Appropriations Financial Services and General Government Subcommittee.

The subcommittee has jurisdiction over annual funding for various federal agencies in the Executive Branch, Federal Courts and the District of Columbia.

It oversees funding for financial-related agencies including the Internal Revenue Service, the U.S. Department of Treasury and the Securities and Exchange Commission.

The subcommittee is also responsible for recommending funding for independent agencies that include the Federal Communications Commission, the Federal Trade Commission, the Small Business Administration and the U.S. Postal Service.
