RICHFIELD SPRINGS, N.Y. (AP) - Counselors will be available for students at an upstate New York school who are mourning the crash death of a classmate over the weekend, while another school district has lost a staff member in an accident.

Administrators with the Richfield Springs Central School District in Otsego County say 18-year-old senior Jacob Matteson was killed around 12:45 a.m. Sunday in a one-vehicle crash in the town of Otsego. State police said Tuesday that Matteson drifted into the other lane and overcorrected, causing his car to overturn and land its roof.

In Washington County, state police say 61-year-old Lin Wilwol of Cambridge lost control of her vehicle on an icy road Sunday afternoon and crashed into an embankment before overturning and hitting a tree. She was pronounced dead at the scene.

Wilwol was a teacher’s aide at Cambridge Central Schools.
